With its 2013 lineup, launching this week at CES, Garmin proves it has no intention of sitting still in the face of a GPS app onslaught and a saturated standalone navigation device market.

Ahead of the show, we got some hands-on time with the company’s new flagship nüvi 3597 LMTHD ($379.99), and found it to be a significant improvement in appearance and build quality over the previous nüvi 3590LMT $329.00 at, our current Editors’ Choice for high-end GPS navigation devices. The nüvi 3597 LMTHD includes a fancy new magnetic mount that lets you snap the device in and out very easily, while leaving the mount attached to the windshield or dashboard, complete with the DC power cord. It also includes a 5-inch, high-resolution multitouch-enabled glass screen like last year’s 3590LMT, except this time in a sleek, ultra-slim, aluminum housing that feels great to the touch.
