Schools considering GPS bus tracking for parents

Wondering when the bus is coming may soon be a thing of the past in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools.

The district is looking to make available a website and smartphone app that not only tracks the district’s nearly 350 buses, but will also allow parents and students to set alerts for when the bus is nearing a particular stop. The service, called Here Comes the Bus, could be up and running as soon as the start of the 2016-17 school year.

“This is the most requested item from any parent I talk to,” said Darrell Taylor, director of transportation for the district.
