Thane: The municipal water department has adopted a technolgy to monitor the water supplied through its fleet of six tankers. The idea is to ensure zero-misuse and pilferage, especially during the summers.
The Thane Municipal Corporation tankers draw water from filling points at Saket and Mumbra and deliver it to areas at the tail end of the distribution network like Ghodbunder Road, Mumbra and Diva, providing about 2.40 lakh litres of water to areas where the distribution lines fail to pump water or are yet to be laid.
However, there were allegations that water from these tankers was being blackmarketed. The administration has now decided to install a GPS-supported system to track the movement of these vehicles. A control room has been set up at the TMC headquarters which is monitored by senior officials.
